A city that can feel impossibly vast, somehow compressed into one room, where the coffee is hot, the plates are full, and the welcome feels real.
That's what The Pantry does. It's the great equalizer.
The Pantry is once again opening its doors, this time as a social enterprise of Hope the Mission, the nation's largest rescue mission and one of Los Angeles' largest homeless service providers. Hope believes that every person deserves to be treated with love, dignity, respect, and the opportunity for a second chance.
The Pantry is getting a second chance too, but this isn't a reinvention. It's the same counter, the same returning union employees, the same recipes and rhythms generations of Angelenos have loved, with the same character that made this restaurant an institution. The only difference is what's happening behind the scenes: when you pay for your meal here, you're also paying it forward. Somebody else's meal, somewhere down the line.
Every meal served here helps fund Hope the Mission's work with the 75,000 Angelenos experiencing homelessness on any given night, providing food, shelter, care, and a path forward.
